We were commissioned by private clients in Midhurst, West Sussex, to create two period looking barns in a courtyard setting, as ancillary accommodation to an adjacent farmhouse.
The buildings were traditionally constructed in masonry with the roof suspended from large central laminated beams, providing open vaulted accommodation. We constructed a warm roof clad with reclaimed clay tiles, and green oak cladding was used to complete a historic appearance.
A balcony was formed to the first floor sitting room to allow magnificent views over the surrounding South Downs, and a veranda was constructed below with French doors leading in to the ground floor living room.
Compact kitchen, bathroom and bedroom accommodation was chosen to maximize the generous areas of living space. Electrical installation and under floor heating were installed to control the environments of each barn, oak boards and terracotta tiles were laid to the ground floors.
