Building Restoration and Construction in The South Downs National Park.

Established in 1979, founder Paul Garstin formed Pegasus Builders to specialise in Renovations and Refurbishments to Listed and Period Properties. His aim was to help discerning clients who recognised the charm and character of such historic buildings. Whilst we continue with Refurbishments and Additions to Period Properties, we have responded to the requirements for architectural remodelling to properties to suit new owners. This may comprise of simple arrangement of rooms to an additional floor or re-siting of the entire building.

We recognise our clients’ requirements to provide a secure period exterior coupled with a warm and relaxed contemporary interior with today’s comforts. Whether the properties are within towns or in the depths of the countryside, we will provide support to all schemes which we believe will provide long term value and protect the investment to our clients. For some clients we offer Bespoke New Properties, with a replacement house constructed on the site of a previous property. We can create new properties either in a period style or in a contemporary manner to a very high quality.

With over 1100 major projects in our portfolio we have gained significant expertise with Additions & Renovations to historic buildings in some unique locations.

We are happy to work with new clients directly, or with key professionals as architects, surveyors or engineers. Our building teams have developed strong working relationships with architects and surveyors over the years who share our enthusiasm for renovating Period Properties. These links with such professionals underpin the quality of our construction and high standards. The engagement of new contracts may be achieved through competitive or negotiated tendering or a construction package.

Clearly we retain specialist teams who share our passion for conserving and enhancing the architectural heritage of older properties. Our people are trained with the techniques to faithfully restore historic walling, in alignment with period joinery crafted for external elevations and full enrichment of period interiors.

We believe good Project Management is essential in providing the foundation to ensure projects are kept on time with cost targets and quality control. Our Managing Director plays in a key role in each project throughout the South Downs National Park and maintains contact from start to finish with every new client. We encourage regular site meetings at the property during the progress of the scheme, where opinions can expressed freely as the build develops.

The appointment of a main contractor will present prospective clients with difficult choices, we suggest that careful research and recommendations are sought by reference from professional advisers or previous clients to gain reassurance.

Being based in the centre of Petersfield, our projects are predominantly located in Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex, we focus most of our operations south of Guildford stretching from Winchester to Petworth. In addition, we continue to support projects in London, South of the river.

Using our extensive experience, we strive to meet new challenges for performance and quality in each and every project - we retain specialist teams who share a passion for conserving and enriching the architectural heritage of older properties - in particular, listed buildings. Whether we are restoring a period property or creating a bespoke new home, we can provide the skills and choice personnel to guide new clients through each project.

With over 1,100 projects to date, we detail below a number of key operations we have developed over the years.

Oakley Cottage Conversion

'Abricon Ltd recently assisted Pegasus Builders in obtaining planning permission for the Oakley Cottage Project. Throughout our involvement in the project I found Paul Garstin and the team at Pegasus to be extremely professional, helpful and prompt when supplying information and keeping us informed of the relevant details of the application. Pegasus were also able to adapt to the ecological conditions on the site quickly and efficiently, allowing the final design to be sympathetic to the existing features on the site.'

Conversion Of The Old Dairy Project

'The East Hampshire District Council Building Control Team has worked with Pegasus for over 30 years, providing the inspection service required to show compliance with The Building Regulations. During construction Pegasus keep us informed of progress and involve the Building Control Surveyor as early as possible where they foresee a problem or have concerns over achieving compliance. This co-operation, and the inclusion of Building Control as part of the construction team, reduces delays and allows for a smoother construction and completion process to the benefit of all parties, and in particular the client.'

'Addition To 17th Century Cottage' Project

'Pegasus have recently completed their first project with us and we have been pleased with the general build quality and workmanship. Working on listed buildings requires a special understanding and a contractor who is able to adapt and deal with challenging problems as they arise on site. Pegasus dealt with any issues quickly and efficiently, and they are now the appointed contractor on another of our projects.'

The Water House Project

'Paul Garstin and his team of skilled tradesman produced an outstanding finished house for us. 'The Water House' project was always going to test even the most diligent and capable contractor. From exceptional ground conditions, where ground water was found running just beneath ground level, to the exceptional level of specification and finishes, Pegasus rose to the challenge.
I would not hesitate to recommend Pegasus to Architects for high specification residential projects.'

'My association with Pegasus Builders stretches back over more than 15 years and a significant number of building projects. There is always an assuring sense of quality evident during the build process and after completion. There is a wealth of experience and knowledge held by key staff about a wide range of work from contemporary to traditional listed building work. It has for me been a pleasurable and interesting journey to work with Pegasus.'
